Weight Loss using Green Tea

Weight Loss using Green Tea

Some green tea varieties are better for weight loss than others. If you’re all about that green and on a weight-loss mission, you might want to choose Matcha green tea—the richest green tea source of nutrients and antioxidants. Registered dietitian Isabel K Smith explains why: “The whole leaf is ground and consumed as part of the beverage, as opposed to other (most) types of green tea where the leaves are steeped and then the tea is consumed.” [wp_ad_camp_3]

There’s a right and wrong way to brew green tea.
When brewing green tea, take a little extra care, as boiling water is bad for the precious catechins (tea’s healthy chemicals). Do bring your water to a boil, but let it rest for about ten minutes. Then, pour the water over the tea and brew for about one minute before serving. Of course, the brew time can be made shorter or longer, depending on your taste.[wp_ad_camp_4]

Green tea has many health benefits. “It contains many nutrients, including antioxidants and anti-cancer and brain-healthy compounds,” Smith reminds us. One thing is for sure: regardless of whether or not you’ll shed pounds with green tea, drink it anyway. “All teas contain many healthful nutrients; it’s one of the healthier choices for a beverage!” Smith says.

But…Just be careful not to pile on the honey or sugar!

Because each cup contains almost no calories, green tea can boost your metabolism and improve your body’s efficiency for burning energy. … For this reason, some estimates show that drinking green tea regularly can reduce body fat by up to 19 percent. Even green tea’s caffeine level contributes to weight loss.[wp_ad_camp_5]

If you like tea, and you like healthy beverage options, you’ve joined the ranks of the other 158 million Americans who are enjoying a cup on any given day. It’s estimated that last year, over 80 billion—that’s right, billion—servings of tea were consumed by the tea lovers of America. That translates into roughly 3.60 billion gallons.[wp_ad_camp_1]

Although black tea is the most popular—it accounts for about 84 percent of all tea consumed—green tea is reported to be growing at a much higher volume than black. Our guess is that’s because of green tea’s potential role in weight loss. We decided to take a closer look at how you can drink green tea for weight loss.

Green tea can help you lose weight. Several studies have suggested that the flavonoids and caffeine in green tea can help elevate metabolic rate, increase fat oxidation and even improve insulin activity. One study showed that those who consumed green tea and caffeine lost an average of 2.9 pounds during a 12-week period, while sticking to their regular diet. Another study suggested the increase in calorie output was equal to about 100 calories over a 24-hour period.

You don’t need to drink a lot of green tea to help you lose weight. While weight loss benefits vary based on different dynamics, they have been found by drinking as little as 2.5 cups of green tea per day.

Weight Loss with Watermelon Juice

Weight Loss with Watermelon Juice

How Watermelon Helps with Cleansing, Weight Loss and Health:

  • Watermelon is extremely alkaline-forming in the body. Fat cells contain toxicity and acid. Your body will not let go of fat cells while you are still acidic.
  • Watermelon is high in fiber. This fiber helps keep the colon clean.
  • Like most fruits watermelon has almost no fats. Besides lowering the calorie content, this makes it easy to digest and thus improves the digestion, a necessary factor in a clean lean body.
  • Watermelon is a very good source of potassium.  This balances the high amounts of sodium our diets contain and thus supports the kidneys.
  • It can ease inflammation that contributes to conditions like asthma, atherosclerosis, diabetes, colon cancer, and arthritis. This lowers the toxic load in the body.

Watermelon Juice
You hardly need a recipe for this it’s so easy – but only  IF you know how! Watermelon juice is a fast way to  alkalize your body using the second most alkaline forming food available.

Ingredients:

Watermelon (as much as you want)
Blender
Tall glass

Yes that is all you need.

Directions:

  1. Cut off the rind from the watermelon
  2. Simply cut up watermelon into pieces.
  3. Put into the blender (even if it has seeds in it)
  4. Blend till totally juiced.
  5. If there are seeds then strain while pouring.
  6. Serve this red juice in a tall clear glass as it is so beautiful.

My friend Karuna in India has another way to make it if you do not have a blender.
“Instead of using a blender, simply try mashing the pieces and strain it. You can add watermelon pieces to this and it tastes heavenly.” [wp_ad_camp_5]

Watermelons originated in southern Africa, from where they spread thousands of years ago to the Nile Valley. In recorded history, seeds of this fruit have been discovered in the tomb of Tutankhamen. The Bible mentions watermelon as food consumed by the ancient Israelites.

Watermelon spread north to the Mediterranean and Europe with early Moors. They were carried as far east as China, which is today the largest producer of watermelon. Some have posited that watermelons were introduced to the Southern US by African slaves, but they were discovered being cultivated from the northern to southern states by Native Americans as early as the 1500’s. There is some debate today as to whether watermelons are a fruit or a vegetable! [wp_ad_camp_2]

The consumption of lycopene, contained most plentifully in watermelon at its peak ripeness, has been demonstrated to increase bone health. The amino acid citrulline in watermelon converts to another amino acid – arginine – in our kidneys and other organs, and in preliminary laboratory studies has been shown to assist the cardiovascular system, and possibly help lower body fat.

Benefits

Surprisingly, watermelons are not just a refreshingly sweet, thirst quenching fruit, but are actually abundant in nutritional benefits, from vitamins and minerals to phytonutrients. They’re rich in vitamins A, C and B-complex compounds such as thiamin, riboflavin and pyridoxine. Watermelons afford a wealth of beta-carotenes, as well as folate, pantothenic acid, the amino acid citrulline and antioxidants lycopene, cryptoxanthin, lutein and zeaxanthin. They also contain anti-inflammatory phenolic compounds, which include both lycopene and tripterpenoid. They’re plentiful in the minerals potassium, manganese, magnesium, phosphorus and copper, with trace amounts of selenium, iron and even calcium. The seeds of the fruit offer a wealth of nutrients as well, and should not be overlooked! Because watermelon is so nutrient rich, it’s a great juice for fasting, cleansing and weight loss

Watermelon provides a rich resource of electrolytes and is void of cholesterol and nearly absent of fat, while offering a modest amount of fiber and protein, and as little as 48 calories per cup! [wp_ad_camp_1]

  • Ingredients
  • Steps

Ingredients

  • 1/4 watermelon
  • 1 carrot
  • 1 stalk celery
  • 1/4 beet
  • 1/2 inch wheatgrass
  • 1 sprig of mint[wp_ad_camp_3]

Steps to Make It

  • Though the rind of the watermelon is packed with nutrients, it is somewhat bitter so I don’t recommend juicing it.
  • The peel of the carrot and beet is also a bit bitter but I would juice them in this recipe for their tremendous nutrient value! Watermelonis a low-calorie food, containing only 46 calories per cup. According to the Mayo Clinic, it takes 3,500 calories to make a pound of body fat, so watermelonis not likely to contribute to weight Because a cup of watermelon contains less than a gram of fat, it is also appropriate for a low-fat diet. Watermelon is no exception — it is low in calories and provides beneficial nutrients, including lycopene to limit your risk for cancer and the antioxidant vitamins A and C. This fruit isn’t a weightloss miracle food, however, so you still need to eat fewer calories than you burn to lose weight. Juicing May Significantly Reduce Calorie Intake. … The fewer calories youconsume on a juice diet, the more rapidly you‘ll lose weight. However, once your calorie intake goes back to normal after the juice diet, you‘ll likely regain some of theweight, if not all. Watermelon is good for you, it’s true. … “The watermelon diet is really more of a cleanse that relies on the fact that watermelon is over 90 percent water,” explains Marcus. “So it’s low in calories and provides some vitamins and minerals. It’s hydrating, refreshing, and can help you feel full, at least temporarily.” [wp_ad_camp_4]

Watermelon is a delicious and inexpensive way to help you cleanse your body and lose weight.  A one cup serving of watermelon is only 47 calories. Below are some of the recipes and directions from our Watermelon Cleanse.

In addition to weight loss, watermelon is a great source of energy and nutrients for your body. Watermelon is recommended by American Council on Exercise as a good choice of diet food.  I consider it a powerfood.

Weight Loss using Honey

Weight Loss using Honey

Does honey help lose belly fat?

By controlling blood sugar and insulin level, your body can maximize fat burning for energy, resulting in reduced belly fat. Garlic is also a thermo genic that boosts metabolism. Mint: Add one tablespoon honey, a pinch of pepper, and some crushed mint leaves to a cup of hot water. Let it to steep for five minutes

Honey is often considered to be a healthy option for weight loss. White sugar on the other hand has empty calories and contains no benefits when it comes to your overall health and leads to no good except for weight gain when you consume it on a daily basis.
It can also help lower cholesterol levels. It is believed that drinking warm water with honey and a splash of lime first thing in the morning is an effective anti-cellulite treatment, as it helps to increase body metabolism. But with 64 calories per tablespoon, how can honey help you shed those extra pounds?

When it comes to weight loss, many long for the quick fix. We are all aware that exercise and a healthy diet are our best bets, but are there any silver bullets?[wp_ad_camp_4]

One of the hottest weight-loss trends today is including honey and cinnamon in your daily diet. People use this combo in tea, eat it straight, or use it as a topping for cereal and other foods. But can you really lose weight just by eating honey and cinnamon?

What’s So Great About Honey?

The very word “honey” is associated with love, vitality, and health. In fact, honey does have many healthful properties. For starters, honey is an antimicrobial agent when used topically. This means that it can prevent bacterial infection, because of its thickness, low pH, and the hydrogen peroxide produced by its enzymes. In fact, research shows that it is highly effective at treating wound infections. It’s also good for treating burns, and is as effective a cough suppressant as some over-the-counter medications.[wp_ad_camp_3]

What’s So Great About Cinnamon?

It also contains antioxidants, can aid wound healing, and may even lower blood pressure and cholesterol. Also like honey, there’s little research to support taking it for weight loss. What About Weight Loss? While claims abound about the pound-shedding properties of cinnamon and honey, research on this combination is slim. Some studies show promise. For example, one study found that replacing sucrose with honey can help prevent weight gain, while another showed that it can activate hormones that suppress the appetite. But, no studies prove conclusively that cinnamon and
honey can help you lose weight.
PrecautionsOne common type of cinnamon, Cassia cinnamon, contains significant amounts of coumarin. Found in many plants, coumarin can be used to treat edema, or water retention.[wp_ad_camp_2]

Does this mean you should avoid cinnamon? No. But if you’re taking cinnamon with honey daily, make sure you’re using Ceylon cinnamon, which contains far lower concentrations of coumarin. In powdered form, it’s impossible to tell the two spices apart. To ensure you’re using Ceylon cinnamon, you may need to purchase it from a specialty spice purveyor, natural foods store, or Mexican market.

It contains antioxidants. … However, in order to really pack an antioxidant punch, you‘d have to consume more than a teaspoon or two of honey; the American Heart Association recommends that most women consume no more than 25 grams or (6teaspoons) of total added sugar per day (that’s about 100 calories worth).[wp_ad_camp_1]
Consumption of raw honey has many benefits, including increasing insulin and decreasing blood sugar.Honey is very sweet, so adding small amounts can really sweeten a beverage or food. For people with diabetes, using honey in very small amounts should not cause blood glucose to spike dramatically

Drop Up to 5 Pounds in a Week 10 tricks

Drop Up to 5 Pounds in a Week 10 tricks

If you want to slim down ASAP, face the facts: Rapid weight loss isn’t just unhealthy, it can set you up for binge eating and fluctuations that interfere with the results you want.

Another thing: It’s hard! “For most people, it’s very, very difficult to lose more than one to two pounds of body fat in a week,” says Philadelphia-based weight-loss physician Charlie Seltzer, MD. And although water loss might move the scale a bit more, the change is superficial and temporary. “It’s fat loss that changes shape,” he says.

Even if you manage to meet your goal, it probably won’t be sustainable: “The amount of restriction required will make you so hungry that you’ll eat everything in sight—it’s survival instinct,” Dr. Seltzer says. What’s more, your body will be less prepared to burn the foods you binge on, since calorie restriction gradually slows your metabolism, he adds.[wp_ad_camp_1]

That said, there are ways to jumpstart your weight-loss journey—and yes, it will take time!—all without starving yourself, investing in unsafe supplements, or logging hours at the gym.

Instead, try any number of these safe, sustainable tips this week. And remember: You’ll get the best, longest-lasting results from changes that don’t leave you feeling depleted or deprived.[wp_ad_camp_2]

1. TRACK YOUR DIET.

“Eating fewer calories than you burn will help you lose weight—it’s that simple,” Dr. Seltzer says. “But you need to know your patterns before you can make a plan.”

To assess how much you’re actually eating to maintain your current weight, Dr. Seltzer recommends using MyFitnessPal. Just input whatever you eat, and be honest. The app will calculate your daily calorie intake without judgement (or any math on your end). “No food is inherently good or bad,” Dr. Seltzer says.

2. MAKE SUPER SMALL FOOD SWAPS.

If you’ve been eating fast food for years, get real about your approach: You’re probably not going to stick to an organic, gluten-free, paleo overhaul for very long. “You want to change as little as possible to create calorie deficit,” says Dr. Seltzer, who insists the best way to support sustainable weight loss is to incorporate small changes into existing habits. So instead of giving up your daily BLT bagels in favor of an egg-white wrap, try ordering your sandwich on a lighter English muffin. Or say you eat a snack bar every afternoon: Swap your 300-calorie bar for a 150-calorie alternative. “Your brain will feel the same way about it, so you won’t feel deprived,” he says.[wp_ad_camp_4]

3. GO AHEAD: EAT YOUR LARGEST MEAL AT NIGHT

Also some research shows that the human body is primed to consume most of its calories during daylight hours. But the lifestyle is problematic for many: Because family meals and dinners with friends often are scheduled for after sunset, “people who try to stop eating after 7pm can’t do it every day for the rest of their lives,” says Dr. Seltzer, who supports an alternative strategy: Eating a hearty meal at your regular dinnertime.

After all, when you run out of calories too early to go out to dinner with friends or satisfy a bedtime craving, you’re more likely to fall victim to what Dr. Seltzer calls the “f*ck it” effect—when you break one “rule” and give up for the rest of the night.[wp_ad_camp_3]

To prep his patients for success, Dr. Seltzer tells them to plan around a large evening meal by eating a lighter breakfast and lunch—NBD since most people who eat a meal before bed tend to wake up feeling relatively full, he says. Research suggests balanced bedtime meals may also promote steady next-day blood sugar levels, which also helps with appetite regulation.

“It just easier for people people to eat at the end of the day, and this approach ensures your social life doesn’t take a hit,” he says.

4. GET YOUR PROTEIN FROM LEAN FOOD SOURCES.

Dietary protein is one of the most important tools in your weight-loss arsenal, partly because you expend more energy digesting protein versus carbs and fat, Dr. Seltzer says. But it’s often packaged with naturally-occurring fats that amp up the calories of each serving.

It’s why leaner protein sources like chicken breast, white fish, and low-fat dairy have fewer calories than alternatives like bacon and burgers. Greek yogurt, cheese, and cottage cheese also make smart choices.[wp_ad_camp_2]

5. PAIR PROTEIN WITH SWEETS.

When eaten by itself, candy and other sugary foods flood the bloodstream and clear out quickly, leaving you hungry again or tired, Dr. Seltzer explains. Protein slows this the release of sugar into the bloodstream so you can get your fix and feel satiated for longer.

6. OPT FOR CARBS WITH HIGHER FIBER CONTENT.

Like protein, fiber slows the rate at which your body plows through carb calories so you feel full for longer and maintain steadier blood sugar levels, one reason why research consistently links fiber intake to weight loss. That means fibrous whole grain bread tends to be a better choice than white bread and also explains why fruits, which contain fiber and valuable vitamins in addition to sugar, beat straight-up candy every time.[wp_ad_camp_1]

7. DRINK MORE WATER.

Skimp on fluids, and your body will release an antidiuretic hormone that leads to water retention that could affect the scale, Dr. Setlzer says. While this sneaky effect is one reason why the scale is a poor measure of body mass loss, you can outsmart it by drinking more—particularly if you fill your glass with water or non-calorie alternatives like unsweetened coffee and tea.

8. IMBIBE JUST A LITTLE BIT LESS.

Booze delivers seven calories per gram—more than carbs and protein (four calories per gram)—without filling you up or delivering essential nutrients. And because it chips away at your inhibitions, it makes those French fries at the bar look way better, and that late-night pizza stop a go.[wp_ad_camp_1]

In other words? “Drinking makes you more likely to eat sh*t,” Dr. Seltzer says, referring to drunk foods. At the same time, he stops short of asking patients to quit alcohol cold-turkey to lose weight. Plus, research suggests you don’t have to, as long as your intake is moderate—i.e., less than about a drink a day. “If you drink a glass of wine every night and notice you eat more afterward, eat less early to account for this,” he says. “Or, if you’re drinking four glasses of wine a week, drink three instead so you’ll won’t feel such a big difference.”

9. MAKE A REAL EFFORT TO MANAGE STRESS.

“Anytime you’re stressed, you probably go for food,” Dr. Seltzer says. (Have we met?!) That’s because cortisol, the stress hormone, stokes your appetite for sugary, fatty foods. No wonder it’s associated with higher body weight, according to a 2007 Obesity study that quantified chronic stress exposure by looking at cortisol concentrations in more than 2,000 adults’ hair.

It’s why no weight loss journey is complete without a stress-management tactic: Maybe it’s meditation, calling your mom after work, or chilling out with music. Just make sure it’s hunger, not stress, that leads you to the kitchen.[wp_ad_camp_2]

10. SLEEP AN EXTRA 30 MINUTES A NIGHT.

Poor sleep is associated with slower metabolism, and the more you’re awake the more hours you have to eat,” Dr. Seltzer says. What’s more, the sleep deprivation activates the same brain receptors responsible for the marijuana munchies, according to a 2016 SLEEP study.
